Article Reflection of “Being-For Others: Teaching As Learning Responsibility From Our Students” By Leovino Ma. Garcia, Ph. D



Being a good teacher is the dream of all people. Having the ability as a teacher means being able to explore our potential to educate the students. Some teachers only think about how to teach well using a good method and strategy to the students. They think that applying this has shown their responsibility. However, in the real situation they cannot put this responsibility in line with the student’s need. So that, their teaching sometimes does not address to the students itself. The writer of this article think that responsibility in teaching is not merely delivering the material well but it is on how to put our students as the centre of the learning. How to gain this goal? Actually the students also perform their responsibility well but teacher never see it as a good learning. The writer then gives the new view on how to learn responsibility from our students.
Students always try to fulfill the teacher expectation with their own ability. Some students learn very had in order to get the best achievement in their lesson. This kind of responsibility we call as imperative responsibility. An imperative responsibility, students always puss themselves to be able to perform their potential, such as performing well in classroom activity. This imperative responsibility can be a good learning for the teacher. A teacher can apply the imperative responsibility for their self so that they have the same view with their students’ responsibility. Applying imperative responsibility will always make a teacher to perform their best in every aspect of their teaching.
Students in the class like showing their help and joyful. The purpose is to prove their existence in the classroom so that other students think that they enjoy the lesson and have the responsibility with others. Teacher can take this learning as the way to built their responsibility. It should be a kind of duty for the teacher to always help the students in every situation. In addition to this, sincerely is also needed by teacher when they facilitate their students. This sincerity can be applied through the joyful of learning. If the teachers enjoy their process of teaching they can build the joyful atmosphere in the class. This kind of responsibility should be applied in their daily teaching and learning process.
The last part of this article show a nice poem, in which the content is showing us that students always pray to the God when they have the examination. It means that the students show to us the responsibility as a good creature of the God. Teacher can take this learning as the good example to always put a God as the first priority in doing their job. This responsibility is the top responsibility that teacher should perform.
