Article Reflection of "The Dumbest Generation? Don’t Be Dumb" By Sharon Begley and Jeneen Interlandi

Students and young people have long played an important role in the next generation. They are the assets to build the country better.. However, it is all misery to see the condition of our students and young generation nowadays. The younger generation today is less informed, less literate, and more self-absorbed than any that has preceded it. The writer of this article call it as “The Dumbest Generation”.

Why this is a dumbest generation? The writer said that they don't read books and don't want to, either, they do not know the history of their country. Moreover, They prefer using the Internet not as a learning tool but as a communications tool: instant messaging, e-mail, chat, blogs. All this activity is done only for fun.

 It is very dangerous for a country to keep this generation, there should be some effort to save our generation from the dumbest generation. The role of teacher, parent, and community is basically needed to save our generation.

In addition to this the role of teacher as an educator becomes important. Teacher as the guidance of students should realize that the students cannot be separated with the use of technology, so they have to be familiar with the current technology and direct their students to use it properly as well as controlling them by cooperating with the parents and community. Teacher can bring technology into the part of their instruction. For instance they guide the students on how to learn language when they play game online. Addressing them with some useful tasks when they play game online and cooperate with parents to control them.

Beside that the roles of parents as well as community become more important in controlling the students from the bad use of technology. Parents should give some orientations to their kids on how to use the technology and explain them the bad impact of it if they do not use it properly. Parent’s attention then should be increased. Community also has responsibilities in protecting our generation from the bad influence. There should be some laws and regulation of the technology use in community.

In brief, technology is absolutely important for us but safe our generation from dummies generation in more important. So, wisely use of knowledge is strictly needed by our generation with the comprehensive control of teacher, parent, and community.
